The Devon Wildlife Hospital has been designed to care for wild animals in Devon. Previously, most of the sick and injured were transported to the RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife Centre in Somerset over 50 miles away, and many died on the journey.
The hospital can stabilise the really sick and shocked and once their health has improved, the animals are taken next door to the Devon Wildlife Visitor Centre, where the animals are rehabilitated prior to release back to the wild.

We have Consultant Veterinary Support from Powderham Veterinary Group in Newton Abbot, and Dart Vale Veterinary Surgeries. The hospital is able to finance any operation or treatment a patient may need and Rescuers may follow the progress of the severely injured on the animal tracking system.
The hospital has a code of practice of care
The staff give all the care, treatment and understanding to each patient with a view to returning them to the wild in a fit state to live a normal wild life, at the earliest opportunity.

‘What is man without beasts?
If the beasts were gone man would die from great loneliness of spirit.
For whatsoever happens to beasts, also happens to man, all things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth’

There is a special room for the care of mammals, and another for birds, all specially equipped.
The casualty department has emergency equipment to care for patients needing attention immediately, and there is a special care wild baby unit for the newborn or those needing intensive care.
